App embed shows disabled
You turned the Promotions app embed on in the theme editor, but the app still shows Not enabled. Here is what the app is actually looking at, and how to settle it.
What the app checks
Section titled “What the app checks”Your published storefront. The app opens your storefront’s home page and looks for the marker Shopify prints in the page for every enabled app embed. Finding it is a definite Enabled. The app re-reads that page at most once a minute per store, so an answer can be up to a minute old.
The embed reporting in. When the embed runs it reports in — from your published storefront, and from the theme editor preview the moment you toggle it on. A report in the last 10 minutes outranks a page reading that did not show the marker: the embed running is stronger evidence than a page that did not mention it.
When the page cannot be read. If your storefront is behind a password, or the request times out, the app does not guess. It falls back to the reports: a report within the last 48 hours reads as Enabled, and with no report at all the status stays undecided. Nothing polls in the background — the status is worked out when the Promotions page loads, so reload the app to re-check. This is why a password-protected store can show Not enabled while the switch in your theme is genuinely on — nothing has run yet for the app to hear from.
Fix it
Section titled “Fix it”-
Confirm the embed is on in the theme you have published.
Theme editor → App embeds → Promotions on → Save. An embed enabled only in a draft or unpublished theme is not in what shoppers — or the app — see.
-
Open your storefront once with the embed on.
Load a normal page of your storefront in a browser. If the storefront is password protected, enter the password first and then load a page. That one page view is what the embed needs to report in.
-
Wait a moment and reload the app.
The storefront check is re-read at most once a minute, and the status is worked out as the page loads, so give it that long and then reload the Promotions page. The status badge should read Enabled.
-
If it still disagrees, save the theme again from the theme editor.
Opening the theme editor with the embed on makes it run in the preview, which reports in on its own — the fastest way to settle a stubborn status.
Limits and notes
Section titled “Limits and notes”- Turning the embed off is reported the same way. The status can lag by up to 10 minutes after a disable, because a recent report outranks a marker-missing page for that long.
- A spinner is not a failure. It means undecided. It is capped at about 10 minutes from your Enable click; reload the app after that and it shows Not enabled rather than spin forever.
- Nothing about your discounts depends on this status. Shopify still checks the cart and still applies your discounts. What the embed controls is the display: Sale Badges, Price Drops, and the gift added to the cart automatically.
- The four widget blocks are unaffected. Quantity Break Table, Quantity Break Picker, Spend More Save More and Cart Goal Bar are theme blocks and render on their own.
